- Abstract
- This final paper consists of a subtitling of a cartoon directed by Bill Melendez Productions and first broadcast in 1979. The cartoon in question is entitled, in its original version, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and it is the adaptation of the first book (in order of publication) of The Chronicles of Narnia. This final paper begins with an introduction written in English, in which I introduce the author of the books on which the cartoon is based, C.S. Lewis. Then, I develop the world of Narnia itself: I analyse the main characters from The Lion, the Witch and the Wadrobe and discuss the themes and symbols present in the book series. The second part of the final paper includes the subtitles I made with their exact time of appearance. Finally, the translation commentary, written in French, concludes this work. In this section, I explain my translation choices as well as the obstacles and difficulties I encountered. I also compare the French dubbed version of the cartoon with my subtitling. In addition to these three main sections, the final paper also includes a preface and a bibliography, as well as an appendix containing the original script of the cartoon.
