- Abstract
- This work is based on the observation of a reductive media treatment of rap music, associating the rapper with a problematic masculinity (sexist, homophobic, misogynistic). The objective of this research is to go beyond this value judgement conveyed by the media to propose an analysis of the staging of the rapper Damso's masculinity in his texts (we based ourselves on his albums Ipséité, Lithopédion, QALF and QALF Infinity). This study considers Damso's masculinity as a necessarily complex, ambiguous and contradictory performance embodied by several distinct male figures. The performance of his gender tends between respecting mainstream hegemonic norms of the rap scene and exceeding these codes through an increased awareness of them.
