Abstract
Mobility has become a key concern in a world with more than half of the population living in urban areas and large cities experiencing significant mobility issues. Faced with urgent needs to improve mobility for the users, public and private transportation providers are also confronted with the arrival of new technologies and new players. Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is one of the areas which could help improving mobility in cities. Blockchain is a technology that can be used to build decentralized market places. The goal of this master thesis is to assess whether a blockchain-designed platform would provide improvements to the existing models. In this thesis, a review of the most relevant literature is made, covering each of the MaaS and blockchain concepts, as well as existing combinations of both concepts. Then, an existing blockchain-based MaaS platform is presented, which, in our view, represents the most advanced application in this field at the moment. Finally, a qualitative analysis is conducted by confronting the viewpoints of different mobility and blockchain experts on the questions of the viability and potential flaws of the model presented.
