Abstract
The study of this thesis will focus on the television series adaptation of historical events. The research will concentrate on the comparison and possible dissociations of the respective narrative patterns related to these historical events. The case study will be The Crown created by Peter Morgan, which portrays the real life of Queen Elizabeth II. This series was originally brought to the screen by Netflix. The aim of this work will be to analyze the series The Crown and examine if a television series can sustain its originality when it is based on historical events. This also will raise the question of how to dramatize historical events to make them correspond to the mechanism of a series. This thesis will analyze “How does a television series manage to guarantee its originality and its own identity while staying true to historical events? The Case study of The Crown.” In order to comprehend the subject matter at hand, we will discover the notions of adaptation, seriality, but also historical fiction and television series.
