Abstract
This thesis investigates the profound and multifaceted impacts of British colonial rule on the evolution of the caste system in India, focusing particularly on the institutional dynamics and economic transformations that occurred during this period. The caste system in India, a centuries-old social structure characterized by its rigid hierarchical order and hereditary occupational stratification, underwent significant changes under colonial governance. This research is crucial not only for its historical importance but also for understanding the lingering effects of these colonial interventions on modern Indian society.
