- Abstract
- ABSTRACT Objective: The purpose of this review was to determine the effectiveness of stabilization exercises versus other musculoskeletal therapies in patients with sacroiliac joint pelvic girdle pain. Study design: Systematic review with meta-analysis Method : Online databases such as Pubmed, Embase, Scopus and Cochrane Library were searched from January 2000 to December 2019. Only relevant data from studies that matched the inclusion criteria were included. PEDro scale was used to assess the quality of included studies, while Review Manager was used for data synthesis to perform meta-analysis. Results : Twelve moderate-to-high quality Randomized-Controlled-Trials involving a total of 1407 participants with a mean age ranging from 25.45 to 42.07 years, as well as intervention and follow-up from 1 week to 2 years of duration, were included in this review. Results of the meta-analysis showed that stabilization exercises alone for pelvic girdle pain were almost as efficacious as control interventions. However, in combination with other musculoskeletal therapies, they were more efficacious than control interventions in terms of pain and disability reduction at short-term. Conclusion : Stabilization exercises alone for pelvic girdle pain are almost as efficacious as other musculoskeletal therapies whereas their combination revealed a significant and clinical decrease in pain and disability.
