Abstract
The overall purpose of this thesis is to evaluate, based on literature the operation of the Trafic company, in Belgium. The problems that were investigated are of three levels; firstly, the layout of the warehouse, then the storage assignment problem within the warehouse and finally the order picking strategy carried out. This study started with research in the literature, moved on to a confrontation between what was discussed in the literature and what was observed in the case-study. This thesis is linked with an internship that was carried out between February and April 2021. The major findings of this thesis are that the warehouse layout used at Trafic is suiting well their operations. On the second level, it would be possible to make changes to the storage assignment policy and material used in the warehouse to minimize the distance travelled in the picking area. Suggestions have also been made to improve the order picking strategy and reduce the picking time. Further investigations can be carried out and are detailed in the conclusion.
