- This thesis examines the role of context on women's trajectories in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education and employment in Belgium. We conducted qualitative research based on semi-structured interviews with 25 respondents, including white students, ethnic minority students, white professionals, and ethnic minority professionals, all in the STEM field. The aim was to understand, on the one hand, how racism and sexism might impact the experience of female students and STEM professionals. On the other hand, we examined how the experience of minorities differed according to their ethnicity. Much research has been conducted on women's underrepresentation in STEM. However, most of it has been conducted in the United States. Few of said research has explored this issue from an intersectional approach. Therefore, we will provide some background work on the experiences of women and ethnic minorities in STEM in Belgium with an intersectional perspective.
