Abstract

J'escomptais initialement produire la première traduction française du rDo la gser zhun, un célèbre texte du Dzogchen attribué à Manjushrimitra. Mais une erreur de récolement dans la collection sNga 'gyur bka' ma shin tu rgyas pa m'a réorienté sur un commentaire du texte susmentionné, le rDo la gser zhun gyi 'grel pa ; lequel commentaire s'est avéré, après analyse, ne pas être un commentaire du rDo la gser zhun, mais d'un autre texte, inconnu jusqu'à alors. Cette traduction fut l'occasion de tenter de définir le Dzogchen, de passer en revue ses catégories littéraires (notamment celle des "18 textes du sems sde") et de produire un "glossaire discuté" des mots-clefs rencontrés. En somme, d'examiner les enjeux habituels que le traducteur doit affronter lors de la traduction d'un texte himalayen de langue tibétaine. (I had originally intended to produce the first French translation of rDo la gser zhun, a famous Dzogchen text attributed to Manjushrimitra. But a misplacement in the sNga 'gyur bka' ma shin tu rgyas pa collection redirected me to a commentary on the aforementioned text, the rDo la gser zhun gyi 'grel pa; which, after analysis, turned out not to be a commentary on the rDo la gser zhun, but on another, hitherto unknown text. This translation was an opportunity to attempt to define Dzogchen, to review its literary categories (notably the so-called “18 sems sde texts”) and to produce a “discussed glossary” of the key words encountered. In short, to examine the usual issues facing the translator when translating a Himalayan Tibetan text.)
