- Abstract
- This thesis explores water management in the railway sector and in particular at the SNCB. Firstly, we study the disparities in Belgian regional legislation concerning rainwater. We then present the internal audit carried out, followed by a benchmark of 15 Belgian or European companies. The results of the benchmark show that water management is not the primary concern of most of the companies interviewed, mainly because of the relatively low cost of water compared with that of energy. The SNCB, however, stands out for its efforts in this area. Nevertheless, there is always room for improvement. The proposed recommendations include, among others, the use of water from wastewater treatment plants and the integration of water-efficient technological solutions. These measures aim to reduce the consumption of tap water by encouraging the use of recycled water. This will allow a reduction in costs and guarantee a more sustainable management of water resources.
