- Abstract
- Emigration often generates a questioning of one’s own identity. Belonging to two cultures, in the Sino-Italian case, generates the feeling of being strange, different, of not being able to belong to a particular model. In the migration writings, the “I”, qualified as amphibious, is so both to its double culture and its ambivalence of gender. As a result, there is a queer perception of the transmigrant’s gender in his or her home country as well as in the host country. The influence of new discourses on gender contributes to this feeling. This research, transmedial and original, will address the different discursive perspectives on gender such as mass media, politics, linguistics and literature. This work will analyse the perception and performativity of gender identity before and after the emigration of the protagonists of three works studied as autobiographies: Blu Cina by Bamboo Hirst, Petali di Orchidea by Hu Lanbo, Cuore di Seta by Shi Yang Shi.
